Have Dog, Will Travel - Bob Straub State Park
Today we continue our Have Dog, Will Travel series. We're headed out to the Oregon Coast to Bob Straub State Park.
End of Bob Straub State Park and the mouth of the Nestucca River
Located near Pacific City, Oregon and about 2 hours from Portland. Bob Straub State Park is another beautiful place to take your dog along the picturesque Oregon coast. Nice long beach, few people and cool seal-watching make this State Park a great place to get away from it all!
Getting there:
From Portland, take Hwy 26 West toward the Ocean Beaches. Right after you pass exit 57 for Forest Grove, be on the lookout for OR-6 towards Banks and Tillamook. Bear left off Hwy 26. Once you hit Tillamook, take US-101 South. Pass through Hebo and Cloverdale and then keep your eye peeled for signs for Bob Straub State Park.
What to expect:
Long sandy beach that runs for 3 miles along the ocean. Bathrooms located next to the parking lot. Few people. Possible marine mammal sightings.

Special considerations
- Bring doggie poop bags - there are no bags provided at the state park
- Bring plenty of water – while the Nestucca River runs along the backside of the park, we always find its best to bring our own water for the dogs
- Bring a rain jacket – you never know what kind of weather the Oregon Coast has to offer
- Bring leashes. Dog are required to be leashed in the park
