Dog Park Review: Hazeldale Dog Park
(Dog Park Rules)
The dogs were getting a little antsy this week, so we decided to take them to the Hazeldale Dog Park in Beaverton, Oregon. We were out running errands in the Beaverton area and decided to give this park a try.
First impressions
We didn't find the dog park until dusk because the directions listed on Yelp.com led us into the middle of a large neighborhood rather than to the park. Doing some backtracking and some additional research, we finally found the park. (We have included a map below to help you find the park easier).
The dog park is an off-shoot of the larger Hazeldale park. the dog park is located on the south-side of the park closer to Hwy-10.
This park doesn't have separate summer and winter areas like Hondo Dog Park which means that the park can be quite muddy. I would recommend wearing old boots and pants if you plan on taking your dogs to this park in the wintertime.
(Muddy feet)
There is a nice double gate entry so you can walk in and take your dog off their leash before entering the main part. I've found these types of entries to be invaluable when we take Tuesday and Stella to the park. They are so excited to start playing they rarely care to obey our commands once we get to the park, even if we threaten to take away their bully sticks!)
(Water buckets are provided for dogs at Hazeldale Dog Park)
Compared to other dog parks, I found this dog park to be a little small. While you can still get a light toss in with a ChuckIt for your dogs, you won't be getting in a lot of exercise yourself by walking around the perimeter of this park.
That being said, I think this park is a great place to take your dogs for a quick trip after work. The two best things about this park are 1) the provided water buckets, that let your dogs get a drink whenever they feel the need and 2) the large pine trees growing throughout the dog park. These trees provide excellent cover if the rain starts to get heavy when you're out.
Amenities
- Double-gate entry
- Poop bags and trash cans provided in the park
- Benches for people
- Bathrooms for people (located near the parking lot)
- Water buckets for dogs (I'm not sure if these are filled on a regular basis or just collect rainwater in the winter)
Getting there
Enter Hazeldale Park via SW 192nd Ave just off of OR-10. You'll have to drive through a small subdivision before turning on to SW Prospect St and then into the Hazeldale parking lot.
