Hondo Dog Park - Dog Park Review
While waiting for our car to be fixed earlier this week we took Stella and Tuesday to Hondo Dog Park in Hillsboro, Oregon. We're always searching for new off-leash dog parks located near our home in Forest Grove, so when this one popped up we decided to give it a try.
First impressions
We had an incredibly foggy day here in Oregon so finding the dog park even with directions was a challenge. The entrance sign to the park was hidden by some large pine trees.
Eventually with the help of a group of people out for a walk, we were able to locate the park.
The Hondo Dog Park is divided into 3 parts -- The main area, the small/timid dog area and the winter use area. The entrance to the main area was locked for the season, so we opted for the winter use area instead.
The winter use area has a nice double gate entry so you can walk in and take your dog off their leash before entering the main part. The ground is covered in pea gravel and sand, which makes visiting Hondo Dog Park in the winter months nicer than some muddier dog parks. A 5-foot fence encloses the park, which means most dogs are not tempted to leave the area.
The winter use area, while much smaller than the summer use area (.17 miles around), is big enough to give the Chuck-It a light toss and still stay in-bounds.
